Cannabis has been used by over a third of the Australian population. Many of those people use once or twice and never use again. Some Australians become regular users and smoke the drug for many years and a number find it very difficult to stop using cannabis and need help to do so.
There are a range of health and social harms associated with cannabis use. Not everyone who uses the drug will experience great problems, but for those that do, cannabis can affect their life in a very negative way.
In recent times we have begun to better understand some of the problems associated with cannabis use, particularly regarding issues around dependency. There are now a range of treatment options available to people who may be experiencing problems with their cannabis use. As a result, there has been a marked increase in presentations to specialist alcohol and other drug treatment services for problems associated with the use of the drug.
This section of the website aims to provide cannabis users with information about the drug, treatment options and how to access assistance for cannabis-related problems, including studies underway at the Centre.
