Dr Laila Khawar
Research Officer

Dr Laila Khawar joined the National Cannabis Prevention and Information Centre (NCPIC) in August 2009 as a Research Officer. She is currently working on the Ecstasy Check-Up Plus treatment study. Her main role on the study is to conduct independent evaluations to assist in evaluating the relative efficacy of a one session Check-Up model compared with a three session Check-Up model that includes cognitive-behavioural therapy for reducing ecstasy use.
Before joining NCPIC, Dr Khawar worked as a research coordinator at the Aga Khan University Karachi for the Health and Nutrition Surveillance Project for young children of the urban slums of Karachi. She completed her Medical Bachelor and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from Dow University of Health Sciences Karachi. She carried out her Master of Public Health at the University of New South Wales.
