Our teams

NCPIC is driven by its three main internal teams: clinical and research, training and communication.

Clinical and research team

Headed by Professor Jan Copeland, the clinical and research team is comprised of Dr Nicole Clement (lecturer), Dr Peter Gates (senior research officer), Lisa Web (senior research officer), Joel Tibetts (research officer) and Lucy Albertella (doctoral candidate). In addition to undertaking various research projects, the team provides the evidence-based information that underpins development of NCPIC's free resources.

Training team

Led by Etty Matalon, NCPIC's National Clinical Training Manager, the team comprises Dion Alperstein (research officer) and John Redmond (training officer). The training team provides free training around Australia, to the AOD and the allied health sector, the youth sector, and the general community. Delivering and developing NCPIC's training program, Etty Matalon has taught Drug and Alcohol studies at the Institute of TAFE and has facilitated over 200 workshops and training seminars within Education, Health Services and the Defence Forces relating to Brief Intervention for Cannabis Use Disorders, Alcohol Treatment Guidelines. She has also run Relapse Prevention groups for inmates within Corrective Services. She has 20 years clinical experience in the Alcohol and Other Drug Field having worked at two major teaching hospitals in Sydney.

Communication team

Headed by Amanda McDonald, the team comprises Karina Hickey (digital specialist), Matthew Tooth (PR and media specialist), Morag Millington and Clare Le (content specialists) and Tori Barnes (project manager). The Communication team is responsible for delivering an annual program of awareness projects and promotions, in addition to developing and maintaining NCPIC's free resources and digital presence.
