Happy New Year! In the first ezine of 2024, we provide some insights into the great projects we are planning to undertake this year, continue our tour through the new website, and introduce a range of new factsheets and bulletins on topics like cannabis and psychotic disorders, parenting, bongs and asthma.
Dr Pete kicks of this year's commentaries with an examination of the work of Palamar and colleagues (2014) on adverse psychosocial outcomes in teenagers who use cannabis compared with alcohol, and you can also check out our new media room and the latest research articles that have been published.
In this month's ezine, we were pleased to launch the first stage of our new website roll out. We've been working very hard on our new site - to create a web platform that gives us the chance to grow and provide more resources and more multimedia and other engaging materials. We've got some work to do to refine the site before roll out of stage two, so any feedback is greatly appreciated.
This month, Dr Pete also commented on Freisthler & Gruenewald (2014), who examine the relationship between the physical availability of medical marijuana in California and overall cannabis use in the state.
This month we profile a brand new initiative: Joint Effort, plus we've got the usual round up of media and research articles, and an interesting commentary from Dr Gates on how accurate regular users are in predicting the potency of cannabis.
The past month also saw the closing date for all of our competitions. And in this issue we're pleased to announce the winner of the poster competition and show off some of the amazing work that was submitted.
In this month's ezine, we launched our 'Tradies health month' focus on cannabis in the workplace. We hosted a short survey on Facebook to see how people approached drugs iat work and found 21% had consumed cannabis within four hours of going to work, 19% consumed cannabis while at work; and nearly 30% believe cannabis has a very significant effect on work skills and safety.
The ezine also included a commentary from Dr Peter Gates on cannabis use and cyclic vomiting syndrome, a round up of media stories about cannabis from the past month, and a list of interesting new cannabis research articles.
This month's ezine is a great read, with some information about our new communication channels such as our blog (weed watch), a sneak peak at some of our first competition entries, commentary from Dr Pete about the work of Williams and Bretteville-Jensen, 'Does liberalizing cannabis laws increase cannabis use?', and of course all the latest cannabis-related media.
In this month's ezine, we said farewell to two much-loved staff members, introduced this year's music competition, and featured research commentary by Dr Peter Gates on the work of Baggio & colleagues (2014), regarding patterns of cannabis use and prospective associations with health issues among young males. We also included links to the latest research and cannabis media coverage.
